Osaka Castle is one of Japan's most famous and historically significant castles. It is located in Osaka, Japan, and was originally built by Toyotomi Hideyoshi in 1583. It is built on two raised platforms of landfill supported by sheer walls of cut rock, using a technique called Burdock piling, each overlooking a large moat, which was used for defense. The castle was destroyed in the summer of 1615, during the Siege of Osaka, but was rebuilt in 1931 and is now one of Japan's most popular tourist destinations. The castle is five stories tall and has many turrets and watchtowers. Inside the castle there is an exhibition room, a museum, and a shrine dedicated to Toyotomi Hideyoshi. The castle grounds also feature an elaborate garden with over 600 cherry trees.
