Snæfellsjökull is a glacier-capped stratovolcano located on the western tip of the Snæfellsnes peninsula in Iceland. The glacier covering the volcano is approximately 700,000 years old and covers an area of about 11 square kilometers. The peak of Snæfellsjökull rises to a height of 1,446 meters above sea level and can be seen from miles away on clear days. The area surrounding the volcano is a national park and is known for its rugged beauty, with lava fields, cliffs, and black sand beaches. The volcano is also famous for its connection to Jules Verne's novel, "Journey to the Center of the Earth," as it is the location where the protagonists begin their journey.
