Hverir is the Icelandic word for hot springs, so this area is simply called the Hot spring geothermal area. A little east of Hverir is Hverarönd or Hot Spring Strip. Prominent in this area is the orange-colored rhyolite mountain Námafjall (482 m.a.s.l.) by Námaskarð pass.
