Salar de Uyuni is the world's largest salt flat, located in the Potosí and Oruro departments in southwest Bolivia. It covers an area of over 10,000 square kilometers and is situated at an altitude of approximately 3,656 meters above sea level. The salt flat was formed as a result of prehistoric lakes that dried up leaving behind a vast expanse of salt crust. The salt flat is known for its otherworldly landscape, with a seemingly endless expanse of white salt stretching to the horizon. During the rainy season, the flat is transformed into a giant mirror, reflecting the sky and creating stunning optical illusions. The Salar de Uyuni is also home to a variety of unique flora and fauna, including flamingos, llamas, and cacti. It is a popular tourist destination and is often visited as part of a larger tour of Bolivia's highlands.
