Laguna Hedionda is a high-altitude saltwater lake located in the southwestern part of Bolivia. It is situated at an altitude of 4,150 meters above sea level and covers an area of approximately 3,200 hectares. The lake is surrounded by mountains and is part of the Eduardo Avaroa Andean Fauna National Reserve, which is home to a diverse range of wildlife, including flamingos, vicuñas, and Andean foxes.
The water of Laguna Hedionda is salty and has a characteristic odor, hence the name "Hedionda," which means "stinky" in Spanish. The lake is fed by several streams and is also connected to other nearby lakes, such as Laguna Colorada and Laguna Verde. The water in the lake is shallow, and the bottom is covered with salt deposits, which give the lake a unique white color.
Laguna Hedionda is a popular tourist destination and is often visited as part of a tour of the Eduardo Avaroa Andean Fauna National Reserve. Visitors can observe the flamingos and other wildlife that inhabit the lake, as well as enjoy the stunning views of the surrounding mountains. The lake is also a popular spot for photography, especially during sunrise and sunset when the light creates a beautiful reflection on the water's surface.
